Resource types

The resource type field is a required field in the deposit form. The resource type is used to describe the nature of the files being shared and is important for discoverability of your record.

Selecting a resource type

The selected resource type is important for the discoverability of your upload, both for users to find your research output, but also because various discovery systems only index certain types from Zenodo (such as only publications, datasets or software).

1

From the drop-down list, select one of the resource types which best describes the files you are sharing. The list of types is based on DataCite's ResourceType vocabulary.

Mixed resource types

You may experience that you want to share an digital object that consists of e.g. both data and software, or any other mixture of multiple resource types. In this case there's two possible solutions:

1

Choose one type — Choose the resource type which you think best describes and/or is most significant for the upload. For instance, the main contribution may be the dataset while the processing scripts are minor in comparison.

2

Split the upload — Split the upload into multiple records, one per resource type. Choose this method when the different types, such as a dataset and software, are significant contributions in themselves.
