Licenses and rights


The license field is a required field. Providing the license for your record is important for other users to be able to reuse your upload. Zenodo defaults to the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY) license.

We recommend the following resources to help you choose the license:

Change a standard license

Click the Edit button next to the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (see image above).

Choose one of the widely recommended used licenses presented, or search/browse for a standard licenses. Zenodo relies on the widely used SPDX list of license. If you cannot find your license you can add a custom license (see next section).

Add a custom license


If you cannot find a standard license, you can add a custom license.

Click the Add custom button (see top image).

Provide the title, and optionally describe and link of the license.

Mixed license uploads


You may experience that files you upload are under different licenses (e.g. software under the MIT license, but documentation under CC-BY license). In such cases you can declare all the licenses as done in the example below:
